چکیده مقاله:
In the present study samples of Ti۲AlC max phase were synthesized using a powder mixture oftitanium, aluminum, graphite and hot pressing method. In order to save money, time and reducethe number of tests, the Box-Behnken experimental design was used. In this experiment design, the main synthesis parameters such as temperature, pressure and change quantities of aluminumand graphite were studied. The temperature, pressure and chemical composition were selected inthe range of ۱۲۵۰ to ۱۴۰۰ °C, ۰ to ۳۰ MPa and ۰ to ۱۰ wt% higher than stoichiometric reactives(aluminum and graphite), respectively. In this regard, the physical and mechanical propertiessuch as density and hardness of each sample were measured and Box-Behnken ۳-D graphs fordensity of samples was presented. At temperatures below ۱۳۰۰ °C and lower pressure, the speedof formation of Ti۲AlC was not enough, on the another hand at the temperature of ۱۴۰۰ °C, thesynthesis of this phase was not possible. According to this investigation, optimum temperatureand pressure for the synthesis of Ti۲AlC were ۱۳۲۵ °C and ۱۵ MPa, respectively. X-raydiffraction and scanning electron microscopy were employed in order to phase detection and themicrostructure studies.
