چکیده مقاله:

Antibiotic resistance has emerged as a significant public health challenge in recent years, driven by the overuse and inappropriate use of antibiotics in both human and animal populations. The recent report indicated that death caused by antibiotic resistant-bacteria is far more than deaths caused by Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and Malaria combined. To reduce the risk of antibiotic resistance in humans, some countries have implemented regulations or guidelines to limit the use of antibiotics in livestock. There is always a race between the discovery of new antibiotics and the occurrence of antibiotic resistance. Herbal products or phytochemicals are emerging as a promising therapeutic strategy against infectious diseases. Herbal antibiotics are natural compounds derived from plants that possess antimicrobial properties. They have been used for centuries in traditional medicine to treat various ailments. They are now being studied for their potential as an alternative to chemical antibiotics in humans and animals. This paper will focus on the current state of research, mechanisms of action, and the potential benefits and limitations of using herbal antibiotics. Exploring herbal antibiotics as an alternative approach to disease prevention in livestock could have far-reaching implications for human health, as it may help mitigate the development and spread of antibiotic resistance.
