The Role of Computational Fluid Dynamics in Process Industries: A review

This literature review focuses on the applications of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) in the field of energy optimization in industry. At first, previous study about application of CFD in industry with actual scale is explained. It has been found that CFD has been employed for the following areas of study in various methods of optimizing energy: industrial kilns, heat exchanger, HVAC, agriculture and food industry. The article focuses on particular case, calciner of cement factory, and explain how to use CFD in this field. The quality of the solutions obtained from these simulations are largely within the acceptable range proving that CFD is an effective tool for predicting the behavior and performance of a calciners and it will be useful to compare the result with experimental methods. Finally, to improve performance of calciner solution is given.
