Trends and Issues in Genre Analysis: Challenges and Opportunities

For over two decades, genre analysis, a group of texts marked by a particular communicative action that tends to generate patterns of structure in a distinctive way in a discourse community, has been the focus of attention and gained momentum due to the prolific publications in different journals and books. As the scientific community is growing internationally, and the academic scholarship is getting anglicized, a large number of researchers from nonnative speaking countries are in competition to be recognized in academic settings while giving their academic opinions in a language which is different from their own. Despite the influential role of genre analysis in presenting ideological and discoursive formations, few studies have been conducted to unearth these formations. Regarding the significance of genre analysis in the discourse community, the present paper aims to present different approaches to analyze different sections of a paper in a discourse community. Moreover, it presents IMRD (Introduction, Method, Results, and Discussion) and CARS (Create A Research Space) models as outstanding frameworks which can shed light on future studies. The paper concludes with some challenges and provides some opportunities for future research.
